Fred Toguchi. Architect, (b.1922 d.1982) The firm of Fred Toguchi Associates, formed in 1962, created some of the buildings most hospitable to families and community cultural events. Buildings like Beck Center for the Arts (1974), Mayfield Regional Library (1981), Arts Center, Ashtabula (1973) and the undergraduate dorms at CASE Western Reserve University (1971). The Rosenfeld Home (1965-8) in Shaker Heights embraced its environment of gardens and emulated the clean lines and spaces that were characteristic of his work. Design awards from the American Institute of Architects and Progressive Architecture honored his buildings. Toguchi was a recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in 19. (Also see: Cleveland Goes Modern)
